Famous Visitors
Creggan Country Park has attracted a number of famous visitors over the years. Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds officially opened Creggan Country Inn on Wed 22nd March 2006. Speaking to guests at the launch which was also attended by Mayor Lynn Fleming, Mr Reynolds welcomed the Creggan Country Park development as an innovative and positive step towards the economic development of deprived areas of Northern Ireland, “My great belief is that we now need less politics and more economics to move forward in a positive way in Northern Ireland. This new enterprise at Creggan Country Park is a great example of how economic development can bring communities together and move the process forward.” Albert Reynolds, 22nd March 2006 Pamela Balentine, Alan and Ivan from UTV filming at Creggan Country Park for the Peoples Millions competition in much better weather! Oct 2005 Paul Clarke and the team from UTV filming at Creggan Country Park, despite the terrible weather! June 2005 Derry's most famous Everest explorer, Hannah Shields, visited Creggan Country Park to take part in our watersports programme. Hannah Shields, 2003 Country File host John Craven visited Creggan Country Park in 2002 as part of a feature on the North West. John Craven, 2002 Jack Charlton opened our original angling facility in 1992 on a break from his duties as manager of the Ireland soccer team. Huge crowds arrived in Creggan to give "Big Jack" a rapturous welcome. The guest of honour was equally impressed. Praising the beautiful sheltered valley at Creggan Country Park, happily noting "even in a howling gale, it is still fishable". Little wonder then that visitors travel from miles around.
