Learn to Canoe/Kayak - 16+

Whether you want to learn more about canoeing, further your current skill level or become a coach, you can learn with us at Creggan Country Park. We currently provide courses for young people aged 16+ and adults to suit complete beginners as well as those looking to brush up on their skills! If you are aged 8-15 and looking to learn to canoe or kayak click here!

The new Star Award scheme provides the support and encouragement paddlers need to get out and go paddling. The initial awards are generic, encouraging paddlers to experience the various disciplines of Paddlesport available. The emphasis of these initial awards is to develop personal skills and gain independence.

1 Star is open to complete beginners and will offer learning in various areas e.g. personal paddling and rescue skills. Candidates must be water confident and ideally should be able to swim. The course is designed as a stepping stone to becoming a paddler.

2 Star is open to more experienced paddlers. It is an improvement award that helps paddlers gain a breadth of experience and develop fundemental skills. Candidates must be able to swim 25 metres in a buoyancy aid.

1 Star and 2 Star courses usually take the format of 2 hours tuition per week for 6 weeks although we can run more intensive courses on request.

1 Star course (12 hours tuition) costs £96 per person.

2 Star course (12 hours tuition) costs £120 per person.

Minimum course requirements are usually 6 participants. We are currently compiling a database of young people and adults interested in gaining this qualification with a view to running courses in the near future. If you are interested or would like to book in a private group for teaching sessions email us with your requirements to admin@creggancountrypark.com or call on 02871 363133.
